Trade Expectations

I hate old threads but this needs addressing. Quoting:

I really don't understand this whole "single playoff game" thing that you have convinced yourself is 100% correct. It's baffling. And yes, I evaluate trades when they happen, not how they turn out, because no one can tell the future and I don't expect GM's to be able to either.ESK 07.09.08 - 5:06 am

What was the purpose of this trade? What was the Expectation of value. Was the trade expected to get the Brewers to a World Series appearance? I do not believe that is a realistic expectation. In that sense i think the Brewers gave up too much. I do not believe the Brewers are capable of a World Series appearance. They have yet to achieve a playoff appearance.

If your goal was to achieve a playoff appearance at the expense of a playoff appearance in 2009, then likely this trade will meet your expectations.

The Brewers have problems with their offense, their bullpen, and their manager. The Sabbathia trade did nothing to mitigate those problems. Indeed it mortgaged future resolutions to their offense by trading away LaPorta. And the PTBNL.

So, if you are satisfied to have a 2008 playoff appearance in exchange for three years of suckdom, well, enjoy the kiddie ride. Cuz you ain't sniffin the World Series.
