Off to a nice start, the CC Surge goes to 1-0

Yes, he was a little amped up, and when you combine that with a very small strike zone by the home plate umpire it looked like CC was a bit wild in his Brewers debut. But he got the outs when they needed them and only gave up 2 earned runs and even with the Umps giving Colorado a gift run (the guy came off the bag and Rickie tagged him). The bats also did their part giving him a lead early and then tacking on runs when the game got close. The pen looked good last night too. Riskie had the best inning he has had since coming off the DL and Gagne had a clean 8th inning and with Shouse pitching the 9th they were able to give Torres a night off.

I goofed the other day. I thought this was a 3 game series and that if CC and Sheets won, we would win the series. My bad. It is a 4 game Series so we need Sheets and Bush to get wins to take the series.

I will be honest: I will be glad when Colorado leaves town. They are an annoying team. I just do not like the style of baseball they play and it drives me nuts that they give the Brewers such a hard time. On paper the Crew should be mopping the floor with these guys.

So the win last night moves the Crew back to 10 games over .500 and helps them keep pace in the NL Central. Someone please explain to me how St Louis keeps winning. They beat Cole Hamels last night 2-0. This means the Crew is still half a game behind them in the Wild Card race.

But there is still a lot of baseball left to be played so I am trying to recapture my level sense of calm when it comes to the Brewers. We will have to see how long that lasts.

On to today's game info:

Sheets vs. ??????? the Brewers site says Chris Reynolds but he was sent down by Colorado. My guess is it will be former Brewer Glendon Rusch.

First pitch 7:05pm CDT

Now that we are through the CC opening day it is time to keep rolling, you are facing a Rockies team with a very thin bench losing another player yesterday when Ryan Spilborghs went down running the bases (a huge break for the Crew) so they need to knock them down today and deliver the death blow so they have no spirit for Thursdays game.

It will be interesting to see how Ben Sheets handles having to share top billing for the first time in his career in Milwaukee. He has been the perfect teammate but remember he is also auditioning for being the starting pitcher in the All-Star game, in which the Colorado Manager is the NL All-Star Skipper. I look for Big Ben to have one of his best games of the season tonight.

It will also be interesting to see how big crowd is tonight I am not expecting a sellout but I am looking for 35k plus tonight.

A win tonight guarantees you at worst a split on this series and sets you up for Thursday.

So lets keep the good times rolling. Now that we have reached 10 over .500, lets push that to 14 or 15 games over .500 by the Break

It is a fun time to be a Brewers fan
