Good Chance We're Getting Sabathia

From Hardricourt's Blog:

The Brewers are closing in on a deal for Cleveland left-hander C.C. Sabathia, to the point that outfield prospect Matt LaPorta has been scratched from the Huntsville's lineup tonight to assure he does not get injured.

A reliable club source told me the Brewers are putting the finishing touches on a deal that will send LaPorta and two other minor leaguers to the Indians for Sabathia, the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner. One of the other players might be Class A Brevard County third baseman Taylor Green, whose name has been on and off the table at various times.

The other player will not be Brevard County outfielder Lorenzo Cain, however. He has been told to report to Huntsville, ostensibly to take LaPorta's place on the roster.

I have been told that the Brewers are not including another top prospect, such as Mat Gamel or Alcides Escobar, in the deal. They drew the line at one top prospect to get a pitcher they know they will lose to free agency after the season.

The Brewers have told the Indians this deal must be wrapped up tonight so they can get Sabathia here and make his next start Tuesday night on schedule. That way, he could pitch again on Sunday and the Brewers would get two starts before the all-star break.

The Indians have an off day tomorrow and are making plans to announce Sabathia has been traded. There's always the possibility that something could go wrong at the last moment but I'm told this is looking good for the Brewers.

I'll post further updates as I get the information.
