Reasons Why I Love Brett Favre

Brett is pretty much the only quarterback I have ever really known, I grew up with him. So here is a list of reasons why I love Brett.

I love Brett because:
  • he was a great quarterback. How many records does he hold?
  • he was fun to watch.
  • he played hard all the time.
  • he played ALL the time. His streak is one of the most impressive records of all time in any sport.
  • he had unbelievable heart.
  • he took chances. Sometimes you would cuss him when it didn't work but when it did work it was simply amazing.
  • he had a cannon of an arm. I wonder how many fingers he broke throughout his career.
  • of the way he would elude pass-rushers. How many times would a DE come at his front side and Brett would just spin around counter-clockwise and get out of there. I mean don't these guys watch film, it worked all the time.
  • of the way he would improvise, the flips, the shovels, the diving, the stumbling, the fakes, the spinning.
  • he wasn't a fundamental quarterback. He could throw off his back foot, falling forwards, falling sideways, sidearm, underhand, he could throw it any possible way.
  • he went bow-hunting the day of games.
  • he didn't wear fur coats and sunglasses to press-conferences, instead he wore old t-shirts, baseball caps and Wranglers.
  • he didn't drive a pimped out Escalade with tinted windows, 24's and 7 LCD screens with porn on.
  • you felt like he was part of your family. Even your grandma would simply call him "Brett".
  • he had that southern drawl that made him seem like a good ol' boy.
  • he enjoyed being at home doing simple things like mowing the grass and clearing brush.
  • he loved his family.
  • he made mistakes and admitted them. He admitted when he made bad throws or made bad decisions. He also admitted that he had a problem with painkillers and with alcohol.
  • he didn't think it was all about him. He praised his teammates every chance he got.
  • it wasn't about the money for him. Sure he made a LOT of money playing football, but he never complained about money, never said he wanted to leave for more money.
  • he had fun. You couldn't help but have fun with him. He was a big kid out there. The way he would jump around after a touchdown, pick up his teammates on his shoulders, joke with people.
  • he was a genuinely a good guy. Quick story, during the bye week Wildcard Weekend he and Deanna went to a restaurant up in the Holy Land (east of Lake Winnebago). The place was pretty busy because there was some fund raiser for a local volunteer fire department. People were bothering Brett for autographs and the like. He asked everyone to let him eat dinner and then he would sign all the autographs people wanted for $20 a pop. After dinner he then signed a ton of autographs for people. After he was done he took the pile of cash, gave it to the bartender and told him to give it to the firemen. Brett told the bartender not to tell the firemen where the money came from but word eventually got out.
  • he was larger than life yet seemed like a good friend.
  • of the way he played after his dad died. One of the most spine tingling performances you will ever see.
  • of the rivalry he had with Warren Sapp. Two warriors with respect for one another going at it two times a year.
  • he was Brett Favre, a legend.
Let us all raise a glass to Brett, #4 in your programs, 4ever in our hearts. Thank you Brett and good luck. You will be missed.
